 Cool Cat Casino Night

Homeless Animals are the Big Winners at Cool Cat Casino Night

It was literally a full house at the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter’s sixth annual Cool Cat Casino Night, held on Saturday, February 20, at the Fr. Patrick O’Kelley’s Knights of Columbus. According to event leader Debbie Stewart, 231 guests attended Cool Cat---51 additional attendees than last year. “We were amazed,” comments Stewart. “We never expected this kind of turnout. This says a lot for our community and how much they care.”

The big winners were the more the 2,595 animals who are sheltered by the Friends each year. By evening’s end, over $17,000 was raised, all of which goes to the direct care of dogs and cats in need. “We can’t thank our supporters enough,” Stewart said, “especially the donors who gave so generously to help make this night a success. Everyone had so much fun and they got into the spirit of the Old West theme. There were a lot of plaid shirts, boots, and cowboy hats.”

Stewart and the Friends send a big “yee-haw” of thanks to all the attendees, volunteers, the Riverboat Ramblers, and the Knights of Columbus. A special tip of the hat goes to the Dearborn Heights Del Taco, and to the donors of the $2,000 Walmart gift card: Dave Hamilton, owner of The Envelope Printery, and the Dearborn and Taylor Walmart stores. Sales of raffle tickets alone brought in over $7,000.

Cool Cat Casino Night 2011 is tentatively set for Saturday, February 19, so mark your calendars. According to Stewart, “Since the cowboy theme was such a hit, the Old West will ride again next year.”
