Monty

January 1, 2002

Dear Stevie, Anna, and All Members of the Board,

Thank you so much for the lovely memento - not just of my time with the animals, the Board members, and the staff at the Shelter - but also the many volunteers who dedicate their time to help our furry friends.  I've so enjoyed my time in the US and will always remember the work done by "The Friends".  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Monty says thanks too for taking care of him until he found "us".  He is just the best dog in the world and we love him dearly.  He's looking forward to being a "Spanish" hound!

Update from Diane:  01/29/02

I was so surprised and happy to see Monty in the Happy Tails section -  he was the longest survivor at the shelter before getting a new home and deserves this - he's such a scallywag - we cannot believe the change in him over the last 3 years - just shows what love can do!!  Anyway thank you so much for putting him in the Happy Endings -  I really do love that foto of him, but because he's black he's not very photogenic - never mind, Hollywood has missed a great opportunity!!

Charlie Cain

I adopted Charlie in December 2001.  He is 10 months old and his favorite activity is chasing my other 6 cats.  Charlie is an adorable and loving cat.  He likes to sit in my lap and he likes to play with the other cats.

Spanky Goudie

It was on my birthday, which was on April 5, 2002, while visiting the Dearborn Animal Shelter, that I found the most beautiful Chihuahua.  He was white, with a few brown spots, and his name was Spanky.  He was in a large cage, and was scared to death.  After pondering about it for a while, I decided to adopt him.

It took us a little while to get used to each other, as I knew little about dogs.  I had not had a dog since I was a child.  He was not sure about me either, since I was a perfect strange to him.  After a few weeks, he came out of hiding, and we slowly came to know one another.

Now, I feel truly blessed, to have found such a wonderful companion.  He is just a perfect little dog.  He sleeps at the foot of the bed, and sometimes in bed.  He lets me know when he wants to go outside.  He loves to go for walks, in the car with me for rides, and with me on my bike.  We will also be spending the winters in Florida as I have retired recently.

Spanky, my dog, is my buddy and companion!  Thank you Dearborn Animal Shelter, for all your help in making this possible.

ps - He is also loved and spoiled by my family, friends, and neighbors.

Jasmine and Luna

I can't tell you what a joy it is to have Luna.  She was 9 weeks old and was named Ana at the Shelter.  She's a beautiful, loving kitten, with big eyes and long hair.  She loves to nap and be brushed and cuddled.  I've only had her 1 day and she's already spoiled.  I'm so glad to have her!  We love Luna!!.

I had to get a playmate for Luna, and Jasmine was the choice.  She was 8 weeks old and was named Sasha at the Shelter.  She is extremely active, and pounces, runs, and jumps everywhere.  It is so cut to watch.  She'll run after everything that moves.  We all enjoy her very much.  We love Jasmine!!

Rockee Xagoraris

Rockee was adopted on March 9, 2002 where his Shelter name was "Butch".  He is shown in the pictures at 10 months of age.

Rockee is shown wrapped up in his favorite blanket.  He looks an awful lot like a Holstein cow?

Rockee is full of energy and loves playing fetch, going running with me, and digging up my flowers.  Some weekends we go and visit with my mom or sister where he gets to play with other dogs.  They run non-stop chasing each other for hours!

He has learned to sit and shake.  He also plays hide and seek, where he has to go find treats hidden through the house.

He is very cuddly and sweet and gives lots of kisses (particularly when he is curled up on the couch in the evenings).  He is actually very bright which can make him an absolute joy and a bear to keep entertained.  So he has lots of toys, chewies, and activities.  Rockee is happy, very spoiled, and well-adjusted.

Rockee's favorite spot in the house:  on the couch with his Winnie the Pooh slipper cuddled up with his dad.

Howie Slater

Howie was adopted from the Shelter on April 11, 2002.  He now lives in Romulus, Michigan with a family of 5.  He loves his Squakey Turtle and going for walks.  He is 1 year old in this picture.

Heidi and Lola

Heidi and Lola (Hi & Lo) were addopted from the Shelter in August 2002.  Lola's name at the Shelter was Bitty.  She is 2 years old, Heidi is 1 1/2 years old.  They join 2 other cats in our Dearborn home.  They enjoy "cat spats" and washing each other.  Heidi is fascinated with the paper shreader.  She bats at the paper as it goes in.  Lola watches the neighbor cats and runs from window to window to see what they are doing.

Katie

Katie was adopted from the Shelter in June 2002.  Her name at the Shelter was Precious.  She now makes her home with her companion in Dearborn Heights where sitting on laps is her favorite thing to do.

Mattie

Mattie was adopted in October 2002.  Her Shelter name was Lexie.  She now lives in Dearborn Heights and is 7 months old in this picture.  She loves playing with balls and she loves play playing with her brother "Smokey".  They run up and down our open staircase and have a ball.  She has brought a lot of smiles to our household.

Jack

This is Jack.  His name at the Shelter was Bo and he was adopted by meg on  8/27/02.  His favorite activity is playing with an ice cube.

Teddy

Teddy was adopted in December 2002.  He is 2 years old in this picture and shares his Livonia home with 4 other pets.  He enjoys napping on the patio swing.  I work West Dearborn as a Dearborn Police Officer on the afternoon shift.  I found Teddy running in traffic on Michigan Avenue.  He jumped into my patrol car and rode with me for the day.  I dropped Teddy of late that night at the Shelter and figured his family would claim him the next day.  When no on claimed him, I knew it was meant to be.

Teddy is a wonderful dog who loves to chew his rawhide bones and makes cute snorting noises when he sleeps at night.  He loves his four kitty siblings at home, and takes great interest in stealing their catnip toys.

Teddy is a wonder addition to our family.

Pumkin Murphy

Pumkin is 1 year old and now makes her home in Ann Arbor where she resides with us and 2 other pets.  Her name at the Shelter was Tammy.  She loves chasing a piece of yarn in a circle and sleeping on top of the bird cage (it drives the bird crazy).

                                                Joyce Murphy

PeDe Melling

PeDe was adopted in December 2002.  His name at the Shelter was Percy.  He loves to swing and go for rides in the car.

We now have two dachshunds: PeDe and Diddy.  Diddy is quite different than PeDe.  Diddy is more of a “princess” and would not think of playing with toys or being silly.  When we brought PeDe home, we jumped with excitement because he plays with toys and has such a terrific personality.  In fact, when we brought him home, he actually picked up his food dish, brought it to us, and set it down in front of us!  He loves to eat.  We are still amazed at what a wonderful boy he is.  But I must tell you the story of his life…

Directly behind my home is a private school/church, along with a playground and grassy field.  One day my daughter Hanna brough PeDe back from the park and said, “mom, you have to come over and watch PeDe swing”.  Two days later, we all walked over to the park and excitedly PeDe spotted the swings.  She carefully picked up PeDe and laid him stretched out on her legs and they swing.  He was so relaxed that he rested his head on her arm, closed his eyes, and stretched his legs out until they fell apart with contentment.  It is absolutely hysterical!  He is truly amazing.

We call him our “handsome boy”.  He sleeps with us as does Diddy.  I’m so thankful that I could bring him home.  The Dearborn Animal Shelter did an excellent job in giving him his medicines, bathing shampoo to soothe his skin, and even a collar and blanket!  When I picked him up from the shelter, he weighed 17 pounds.  He now weighs 21 pounds and is very healthy.  Most importantly, he knows that we love him so much and he is safe with us forever.

Cocoa and Sasha Baltrusaitis

Our life fell apart in the winter of 2002, when our 2 Norwegian Elkhounds (Max and Asti) became ill. Max died in February 2002 of old age and Asti fought seizures for 10 months from a brain tumor.  After Max died we adopted Cocoa (Husky / Retriever Mix) from the Dearborn Shelter in August 2002.  He is the gentlest dog you will ever meet.  Cocoa quickly settled in and became a wonderful addition to our family.  Cocoa also became Asti’s angel and would alert us by barking when Asti was having a seizure.  Sadly, Asti lost her battle with the tumor in November 2002.  We couldn’t bare the thought of Cocoa being alone, so we vowed to adopt a puppy after Christmas.  Like a miracle, Sasha (a.k.a. “Zoe”) came into the Dearborn Shelter in November (a week after Asti died) and I went to meet her.  Well, it was love at first sight with her cute, big ears!   I called daily to check on her and prayed nobody else would claim her before I could because she came in as a stray.  Sasha has been thought to be a collie mix, but we’ve heard everything from Akita to Canaan.  We just call her our brown and white dog!  Although we miss Max and Asti terribly, Cocoa and Sasha have become the center of our lives.  Cocoa loves to walk, walk, and walk even more.  He’s always ready to flip over for a belly rub.  Sasha is a puppy, must I say more?  I do have to say she is the sweetest, smartest, loving, puppy I have ever come across.  She loves every toy we give her and is great with our children, Matti (9 years) and Sage (6 years).  Both dogs play great together and Cocoa is teaching Sash to play nice.  Thanks to the Dearborn Animal Shelter for their help, especially Judy!

Sherlock Lothrop

Sherlock and Sheba

Shelby

December 13, 2002

 Dear Dearborn Animal Shelter Friends,

We just want to thank you for our newest family member, Shelby.  We brought Shelby home from your shelter in August, and she has endeared herself to us in so many ways.

The kids love her, as she is a great playmate, and protector.  She is also a love, and loves to jump into the tub with our youngest while she takes her bath.  We now have to lock Shelby out of the bathroom while Autumn bathes!

Here is a picture showing just how spoiled Shelby has become.  I know she feels she has a good home, and we are all grateful for her.  She can be challenging at times, due to her stubborn nature, and endless energy.  The companionship, and the smiles, is well worth it!

 Happy Holidays!

Dan, Terri, Brandon, Jacob, and Autumn

King Kozlowski

King was named “Ducati” when he was at the Shelter.  We adopted him on 9/12/02.  He is about 2 – 3 years old and loves long walks!

When we brought King home his coat was dull, his tail was tucked between his legs, and his ears were back.  Now his coat is soft and shiny, his tail is curled up and wags constantly, and his ears stand straight up and alert.  He is a gorgeous, fun, loving dog and part of our family!

                                              Kelly Kozlowski and family, Dearborn

Update as of 4/05:

Thank you so much for putting our King in your Happy Tails. We have had
him 2-1/2 years now and love him so much. He is a wondeful wonderful dog
and now a Kozlowski!

Mary
