 Charlie Jones

On the very last day of 2008 Emily Jones adopted Amigo, a fluffy, tuxedo marked, handsome boy, from the shelter.  Soon, she changed his name to Charlie because of the black spot on his face that makes him look like Charlie Chaplin.  She took him to her home in East Lansing where he likes to sleep in gift boxes, laying like a human in front of the window basking in the sun and trying to steal his roommate Rhia's food.

Emily included the following in her Happy Tail submission as well:

I first met Charlie at PetSmart and he was a very depressed little fellow.  Nothing seemed to make him want to come out and play and he didn’t come and greet people like the other cats in the cages. It seemed as if Charlie was losing his spirit; however, I was drawn to him and the way he looked at me. On December 31st I adopted Charlie and the rest is history. I have never met a cat with such an adorable personality. He sometimes thinks he is dog and proves that everyday by begging for food in the kitchen, greeting people at the door, etc.  He is such a lovable little character that keeps everyone laughing. He cuddles up next to me on the couch and sleeps with me every night. There has been a 360 degree change in his personality and he makes everyone smile. Charlie has had some hard times in his life and has had to face many changes, now he will accompany me during a change in my life as I move to Houston, TX for work. He will always have a forever home where he definitely calls the shots.

Also, Charlie has enjoyed sharing his East Lansing home with Rhia (formerly Darleen at the shelter) who was adopted in early January by my roommate, Sneha.  They keep each other occupied for hours while they run and chase each other all over the apartment.

We wish Emily and Charlie a happy life together and the very best of luck in their move to Houston, TX.  Hopefully, we will get updates of their adventures together.

 Krista and Tessa Wendt

photos of Krista and Tessa

go right here

Krista and Tessa are two very lucky kitties.  In November of 2008 they went to live with Corinne and Tracy Wendt of Dearborn.  Corrine and Tracy write that Tessa loves to watch the birds and squirrels from her window seat and play with her sister Krista.

Tessa was adopted with her sister Krista (shelter name Kendall).  They get along very well and spent their first night sleeping on our bed with us.  They have adapted very well and have the run of the house.  They love to be held and cuddled and we can't imagine how empty our house would be without them.  10:00pm is play time.  They run and chase each other until they find their way to the foot of our bed and fall asleep. We can't believe how lucky we are.

 Friday Springer

Friday's name was Buzzie at the shelter when Nancy Springer, a retired R.N. adopted him on November 10, 2008.  They now live together in Westland. Nancy tells us that Friday "loves to play, ...creates his own games.  Especially loves little toy mousies...hides them under the couch, stove, fridge.  ...also loves bubbles blown by mom.  ...plays for hours in 3 different sized empty boxes".

Friday puts his toys (mice, ball, catnip pillow and assorted 'snake-like' toys) in the boxes and then pretends to 'find' them and pounce on them.  He is loving and affectionate with mom, [he] 'talks' with meows and likes to dance in mom's arms each night to country western music. [He] purrs often.

 Willow David

ahhhh-room to stretch

relax time, TV time with my new "daddy"

sleep time! Willy and Willow

Willow now lives in Warrendale Township with his new mom and dad, Mike and Therese David.  They adopted Willow from the shelter in January of 2009.  Therese and Mike write: "Willow enjoys playing with her new friend 3 year old Willy, a male Bichon Frise dog".

Willow is adapting well with her new home, mom and dad and little dog Willy.  Willow is a happy cat with lots of cheer and fellowship.  Willow and Willy have taken to one another since day one and sleeping side by side at times! Willow seems to be actually enjoying being around Willy and even has been taught by Willy to play with his dog toys and run and toss[es] [them] into the air. It is such a joy watching these two play together.  Willy was raised by two senior cats so Willy is enjoying having a cat in the house again.  Willy welcomed Willow with all four paws!  Willow is enjoying her new experiences and has discovered the perfect window to watch the birds and cars pass by.

Thank you for caring for Willow before we discovered her! We will stay in touch.  Here are a couple of pictures of Willow.

Sincerely,

Therese

Stewie Owens

Wilma Owens of Taylor adopted a 3 year old dog from the shelter on November 28, 2008. She decided not to change the name that the shelter gave him and calls him Stewie.  She tells us that Stewie's favorite pass time is eating and walking.  She says that Stewie is 'very loving", "loves attention" and "loves his cage and blankets"

Hopefully a photo of Stewie will be here soon

Bob Polan

Harrison Township gained a new resident in August of 2008 when Mary-Anne Polan adopted Glen from the shelter, brought him to her home and renamed him Bob.  Mary-Anne wrote that Bob likes to chase his fishing pole toy in his new home.

Glen, now called Bob (because he is tail-less) was adopted by us the end of August.  We were looking for a cat that had been declawed on all four paws.  At the Dearborn center we found 5 that [fit] the bill, but as my daughter picked up each cat something was not right with each one.  We found Glen in a trailer.  He was cuddled up in one of the cat condos.  It took a lot of coaxing to get him out and every time we put him down he ran back in.  We watched him use the litter box and eat the dry food, so were confident he was housebroken.

The first few months had their challenges.  We had a pet cockatiel that enjoyed spending every waking moment out of his cage.  Bob liked to chase him.  One day I forgot to put him back inn the cage prior to leaving and came home to find feathers on the floor.  The bird looked fine, but two days later died.  I couldn't fault Bob, I had forgotten.  We have replaced the cockatiel (although I still cry over the loss of the other one) and are working on disciplining Bob when he goes after this one.

We also had some issues with him not using the litter box all the time.  He seemed to like to urinate on the dog's pillow.  We have gotten past that.

Bob has adapted to being afraid of his 3 canine brothers and sisters.  When it is time for bed he practically beats the dogs up the stairs and is usually at the door meowing when we return home.  He is quite vocal.  People have told me when they ring the doorbell and we are not home Bob is meowing at the door.  I'm not sure how this will go over in the summer months when the windows are open!

Bob loves his cat treats.  He is learning to sit and sit-up for them.  He also loves his morning canned food.  He beats me down the stairs and into the kitchen.  Our Pyrennes gets canned food in the evening mixed in with her food.  Bob always sits on the stool and sneaks some of her food while I am mixing it.  He has even gone so far as to continue to eat it out of the bowl once I have placed it into the dish holder.  The Pyr usually allows him a little and then gives out a little growl and off Bob runs.

I bought him a cat condo thinking he loved his so much in the trailer he would love this one too.  No such deal.  His favorite places to sleep are in the sink, the dog cage, a show box on my dresser and any other boix he can find.  Many nights I find him sharing my pillow!

He has been a wonderful addition to the house.
