 Kimba B.

We received an email indirectly from D and N of Grand Rapids on December 6, 2009 about the happy adoption of their dog Kimba, 5 years ago.  The subject line of the email read: "5yr and counting / adoption of Kimba".

 Parker Wowk

Parker is the happy ending to a sad event.  I had to put my cat, Tony, down after 8 yrs.  The day I donated Tony's food & toys is the day I saw Parker.  After 5 days, Parker was adopted.  He is a joy & adds love to my heart.

Above is how Laura Wowk of Dearborn heights describes the events that led to her adopting Parker on December 10, 2009.  Laura told us in her Happy Tail that Parker enjoys chasing after a blue "sparkley mouse".

Miss Pearl Moore

Phyllis Moore is an angel for animals.  Read the following and know why:

Miss Pearl is mostly blind and has been severely beaten with injuries and bone breaks which have healed badly. She has been seen by two doctors who concur that her blindness probably occurred when she sustained an injury to her skull. She is a sweet kitty who sometimes becomes afraid of a strange noise or movement. After almost two years she seems to be learning to trust and respond to affection. I brought her home as a foster but could not give her up. Thanks to everyone at the Shelter that took care of her in the three months that she was there. She will live the rest of her life in peace, knowing that she is loved.

Phyllis adopted Pearl, who was around 14 years old in March of 2008.  She named her Miss Pearl which seems fitting, because this kitty deserves much love and respect for just surviving. Phyllis tells us that in their home in Dearborn, Miss Pearl enjoys her 15" deep window sill. "She sits there all morning as that spot receives strong sunshine."

Buddy Waligorski

Watching birds by the door wall is what Buddy likes to do best, says Carole Waligorski of Dearborn Heights.  Buddy's name was David when Carole adopted him at the shelter in December of 2009.

He picked me.  He purrs. [He's] what I wanted.  He only took 2 days to get use[d] to our 3 dogs.  He sits up and begs for food with the dogs at dinner time and hits me with his paw to get my attention.  He has come to our bed in the middle of the night and made himself comfortable.  He likes to swat the bloodhound in the nose, but doesn't use his claws.  He also follows me from room to room.  It didn't take him long to become a loving member of our family  He's adjusted well.  [He's] a more than welcome addition to the household.

Thank you

Carole and Tom Waligorski

Pablo, Maggie and Molly C. [update]

When we notified Lisa that her email would be posted as a Happy Tail and subsequently published on the www.dearborn-animals.com website, she sent in this lovely update on February 23, 2010.

We just love the cats- visiting an animal in a shelter is one thing. You really have to give them some time to acclimate- to be who they are-or used to be. I think it took PB 2 or 3 weeks to really come around us for some attention. Maggie took some time to warm up until I bought her a furminator brush- talk about addicted. Molly has always been the most outgoing of the three and adapted very quickly.

I love to talk about them- they are so funny. They have helped us as much as we’ve helped them- in 2006 my oldest son Mike-Jake’s big brother- was killed suddenly-he was only 20. As you can imagine it really shook me and Jake to our very foundations. Maybe it’s just me, but the cats seem to know when we are feeling dumpy. We are doing a lot better now, but on certain days it’s pretty tough. It’s nice to have a fuzzy face bump heads with you-or just sit on your lap for some petting. Jake will talk to Molly about his brother sometimes-I think she listens. He calls her his PK (personal kitty) - they are very close.

Cats are far from aloof- they are wonderful companions, easy to care for and are quite economical, especially if you adopt an adult. Maggie and Molly were already fixed and front de-clawed- PB was fixed as well. Purina is more than happy to provide coupons for pet food and Pet Smart has awesome sales and mail coupons out all the time. I always stock up when they have a big sale.

Anyway- as you can see I love to talk about the kitties. They make us smile every single day- and are as happy to see us after work and school as we are to see them. What a joy they are- I am a firm advocate of adopting an older, shelter pet. They are awesome! J Jake is now begging for a dog- you may see us there again for a barker to go with the meowers. If he can sweet talk me into it. The cats love my sister’s dog Roxie- they like to groom her and smack her around. Roxie is a good sport.

Lisa C.

PS- Many, many Kudos to you guys with the Chihuahuas- I kept up on the news reports. What a massive undertaking- and you all jumped right in with both feet to help those little dogs. Great job!

Uhm Lisa, wouldn't a photo of Pablo, Maggie and Molly look great here?

Izzy Chuba

Izzy likes to play with a black fuzzy toy with strings, and she likes to wake me up at 6:00 AM, even on Saturdays!

Izzy is a really good cat. I like her because she likes my dogs, and she can stay home alone during the day. I can cuddle her whenever I want. She is hard work, but she is worth it because she really loves me. I like that I have to play hide and seek with her every day because she blends in with everything. I am really happy with her!

Anna adopted furry, grey, 5 month old Cosmo on January 12, 2010, took her home to Plymouth and changed her name to Izzy.

Evo E.

Evo was around 4 months old and was named Torin when Sarah E. adopted him from the shelter.  They now live together in Dearborn Heights. Sarah says Evo's favorite pastime is sitting in the window watching birds or squirrels.

He fit in our house perfectly, his personality and just the way he acts and his attitude, I feel he was perfect for us and he is spoiled and loved beyond belief.

Keaton Spors

Keaton the tuxedo kitty now lives in Detroit with Dennis Spors, three other humans and 4 other pets.  Keaton will never be lonely in his new home.    Dennis tells us that Keaton's favorites are sleep, treats and he likes to be scratched.

Jackson Brown (Jack) Krisciunas

Rich Krisciunas adopted a cat named Jackpot on December 23, 2009.  Jackpot's new name is Jackson Brown aka "Jack".  Jackson Brown now lives in Northville where he "purrs all the time" according to Rich.

We are so lucky.  He is a very affectionate and gentle cat.  He has adapted to his new home and our schedule.  He likes to sleep on my pillow at night, so we share it.  When he purrs, he sounds like a generator.  He loves getting his stomach rubbed.  What a good cat.

Bella Foster

We are delighted that Anita Foster decided to give 3year old Pocahontas a chance on January 18, 2010 when she adopted her and took her home to Detroit.  Anita now calls her Bella and says that Bella enjoys: playing with her sister, being petted, going for walks and playing tug-of-war with Cinnamon.

She is laid back, sweet, she is not food aggressive and does not bark excessively only when she is giving a warning that someone is at the door or playing and she is excited. She is a pleasure to walk on a leash.
I would also like to thank the employees at The Friends of Dearborn Animal Shelter for recommending Pocahontas to me. I came in with 3 dog names that I wanted to see but they all were adopted and someone suggested Pocahontas, at first I was little bit afraid because while she was still in her cage the assistant had walked away and Pocahontas started barking at me. And when the assistant brought her out of her cage into the lobby and I got up the nerve to pet her, she didn’t even look at me or respond, but the assistant told how long she have been there and maybe that was why she was reacting that way, so I told her let me bring my son and my other dog Cinnamon (min pin) to meet her and see how they got along. My son liked her and she was excited meeting my dog. Cinnamon had to get use to her at first. Pocahontas reaction that day brought a smile to my face, her whole body language was different, it was like she knew she was going home.

Bitty Lyman

Bitty was adopted from the shelter on October 17, 2009 by Abby Lyman of Dearborn.  As the only pet in the family, we bet that Bitty is the queen of the house.  Abby tells us that Bitty loves balls with bells in them and loves to snuggle :)

If Abby sends in a photo of Bitty, it will go right here.
