Lola has brought so much fun into our lives. When our 12 year old Lab Cody died in October, I didn’t want to go through that hurt again. But after two months without a dog I felt the emptiness. Our house was not a home. When I saw Apolla (Lola) on the website I immediately fell in love with her. Apolla needed love and the feeling of security and I knew our family could give her that. We worked with Karen at the shelter on a few things Apolla needed attention on. We waited patiently to adopt her and on February 11 we brought her home. She has made us so happy. Her favorite toy is a rope toy and her favorite activity is playing in the yard. Lola loves her new toys and her sister Becca and brother Josh. She is spoiled to say the least. She plays all day and looks forward to her daily walk with her dad and meeting all her neighbors. She loves to give hugs and snuggle in bed at night. We love Lola and we thank the Dearborn Animal Shelter especially Karen for all their help in adopting Lola. Our house is now a home again! Carol, Mick, Becca and Josh Yonkus |

To our friends at the Dearborn Animal Shelter Update on Fiona (now called Luna) Luna is doing GREAT! She has adjusted to her new home in Dearborn perfectly. With the double lot she is able to run to her hearts content and play with the neighbor dogs, Bob and Birdie. She is a very loveable pup who loves to be petted and smothered with affection. This past weekend she went swimming in her pool. As you can see from the photo she is having a great time! We are so grateful for the opportunity to adopt her and take her out of her abusive environment. Our thanks to all of you at the shelter-we will keep you posted on her progress. Marble and Bear (Midnight at the shelter) have adjusted well to their new home. Marble follows me everywhere and talks quite a bit. Bear is quiet and he loves to snuggle before bed. They usually get along, although they do rough house a bit. No one gets hurt though. Thank you for helping me adopt two wonderful cats. Diane Huch, August 23, 2005, Brownstown |

Bernadette was ten months old when we adopted her in November 2004. She now lives with three people and one other dog (Nikki) in Redford. Bernadette is the most loveable, playful dog we’ve ever seen. She listens well and became best pals with Nikki, our year old lab. Nikki may be bigger than Bernadette, but Bernadette is faster than a rabbit as she playfully stalks Nikki, jumping on her and then takes off running, hiding under a table where Nikki can’t fit. Did I mention she is smart? Fact is-we love her and she loves us! Thank you for matching us up. It’s a good fit. Patricia Weisman, Redford |

Ollie, a 2 or 3 year old dog whose shelter name was Jake, was adopted in September 2004 into a family of two people, three other dogs and two cats. He now lives in Cleveland, Ohio. Ollie’s favorite activity is rolling in snow, having his belly scratched, and playing at the dog park or in the back yard with his sis and brothers. When Ollie joined us he weighed only 93 lbs, now he is a healthy 128 lbs which is in his weight range. Ollie loves to play with his two ‘brothers’ and one sister. He will bark (yell) at her if she is not paying enough attention to him! He loves making new friends at our local dog park, he is happy rolling around in the snow or being sprayed with the hose (on hot days of course). We have a dog beach near us that our four dogs really enjoy. We had to buy a king size bed to accommodate all of our ‘kids’ Ollie is most comfortable laying on his back in front of a fan that I turn on every night just for him. He is a very happy and handsome boy. We love him so much, he has a very sweet disposition and I really believe he loves us and is happy in Cleveland. He is so smart! He can sit, lay down, speak, roll over, stay, ‘go to the yard’, ‘sit up pretty’, give paw, and give ‘high five’. Absolutely a wonderful companion not only for my husband and me-but for our other babies as well! Thank
you |

To all the Dearborn Shelter Staff, On behalf of the Midwest Boston Terrier Rescue I wanted to thank you for allowing us to participate in the rescue last month of little Kathie. She is the sweetest little thing, we just love her and think that she will be going to her permanent home late next week. I thought you’d enjoy a couple of pictures I took of her ‘ruling the roost’ at ‘Camp Hascal’ while we got to know her and let her recover from being spayed (turns out the scars she had were from c-sections), the removal of some small mammary tumors and an abscessed tooth. It was brutal, but she feels great now and has put on 1 ½ pounds. She is going to be a wonderful and loyal companion and will make someone very happy. And all of you made that happen by recognizing all of her good qualities! Again, thank you for letting us participate. Pat Hascall, Mar 2005, Troy, MI |

We adopted Salem and Oliver, four year and one year old cats whose shelter names were Aero and Joseph, in April 2005. They joined a family of two people, one other cat, Cocoa and two dogs, Rocky (Black Lab mix), and Chewy (Husky mix). Salem likes to lie around and sit on laps. Oliver loves to play with hanging mice! While Salem was okay with another cat, he was afraid of the dogs. Oliver was opposite. Great with the two dogs, he was a little rough with the cats. After three weeks they are all getting along very well. Salem is getting used to the dogs and Oliver is settled in. Our cat that was lonely has two new playmates! I think they are all happy. Sara, a seven year old dog, joined our household on June 1, 2005. She now lives with six people in Allen Park. She acts as a sister to my four kid’s ages six, four three and eighteen months. She likes walls to the park and riding in the car. She likes to steal the kid’s stuffed animals from the toy box. Donna Rickman, Allen Park |

Mr. Voodoo, five year old cat, now resides in Redford with two people and three other kitties. He loves his cat torys. He loves his cat toys and is doing just fine. Our vet found out he has a heart murmur and we are working with that. He is doing just fine. He is excellent with his litter box and a very sweet boy. He is still fitting in to the ‘pecking order’ with the other kitties. Mr. Voodoo is very active and loves to play. Thank you. You may visit our house any time. Pat and Bob Klein, Redford, Aug 8, 2005 ps He has a heart murmur per our vet's checkup. We will work with that. |
